Safran Transmission Systems delivers 2,000th LEAP power transmission
Safran Transmission Systems supplies ADTs for all three versions of the LEAP engine, the LEAP-1A, LEAP-1B and LEAP-1C, respectively powering the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX and Comac C919. The LEAP is the fastest-selling engine in the history of aviation, with more than 15,000 already ordered to date. Its production ramp-up is also exceptional: since entering service in 2016, the LEAP's production rate has jumped from 500 in 2017 to 1,100 in 2018, and is expected to double by 2020.
The success of the LEAP ramp-up is also a major challenge for Safran Transmission Systems. Having already delivered 2,000 ADTs to Safran Aircraft Engines, we are very proud of meeting the objectives set by CFM International.
To meet this challenge, Safran Transmission Systems added new machinery and equipment to our existing production lines. At our two production facilities, in Colombes near Paris and in Sędziszów (southeast Poland) we deployed automated 5-axis machining centers and three high-speed assembly lines. The ergonomic design of the workstations on these new lines was revamped, sequences were simplified, tooling standardized and the quality management system strengthened. We realized that training is imperative to move our employees up the skills chain and ensure that processes are as efficient as possible. All of these key drivers will further boost the peformance of Safran Transmission Systems.
