First ground tests of LEAP-1A engine (FETT – First Engine To Test)

The first tests on the LEAP-1A equipped with Hispano-Suiza ADT (Accessory Driven Train) started on Thursday 4 September. The engine has successfully reached its maximum take-off thrust.

This key stage in the development of the engine marks the start of a long test program that will be spread over three years with a view to certification of the LEAP-1A in 2015 and then entry into commercial service on the Airbus A320neo in 2016.

The Accessory Drive Train (ADT) designed, developed and produced by Hispano-Suiza includes the accessory gearbox (AGB), the transfer gearbox (TGB) and the radial driveshaft (RDS). Hispano-Suiza teams up with Snecma in the development and production of three versions of the ADT of the LEAP engine : LEAP-1A for the A320neo, LEAP-1B for the Boeing 737 MAX, LEAP-1C for the Comac C919.
